Sites: we request https://<domain>/llms.txt and /llms-full.txt, following up to five redirects. HTML responses and non-200 statuses count as not found. Unreachable sites are excluded from the denominator.
Files are validated with the same rules as our free llms.txt validator: a required H1 title, a summary blockquote, well-formed links, and the Optional section placed last.
Only domains from our curated crawl list count toward the site numbers. Sites submitted through the validator get a report page but are excluded, because people mostly check sites that already have a file.
Repos: we read the default branch through the GitHub API and look for root-level AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md, GEMINI.md, llms.txt, and .cursorrules, plus .cursor/rules/ and .github/copilot-instructions.md.
